The best way to view the callbook is to type direct url 9m2ar.com /callbook.asp rather than going thru just 9m2ar.com. Pelajar Vokay/SMT Jalan Stadium boleh masuk ke url sementara 9m2ar.com/jalanstadium.asp . Tetapi in hanyalah sementara waktu sahaja. Setelah siap semuanya smt akan ada url sendiri iaitu smtjs.net. |

A radio operator should have a few basic items, namely a compass, a themometer, a 24 hour clock and a logbook. What to be placed in front and always be visible are the themometer, a clock and a logbook. A pen too of course. Keep the compass at a place where it is easily located. The compass is handy whenever an antenna is to be fixed. |
| REMINDER - MONEY MATTERS
1. This is to remind members of ham radio clubs/societies, which they can cease to ignore, that they should not depart with their money as to payment of a certain collection pertaining to assurace of a pass in RAE, CW, fight for No-Cw, No-RAE, for certain clubs or repeaters, to any indivial who claims he is the representative of any of those clubs or oganization. The club will announce of it's intent and as to the metod of payment. 2. Individuals may approach members to use their names on certain APs when goods to be purchased do not belong to them. If they choose to ignore evenually they will know the consequences. 3. That if anybody whom you don't know very well ask you to buy some expensive items using your own money, do not be to kind to do it. Collect the money first before you help them to buy. There have been reports that goods purchased have not been re-imbursed. Some people lost to about RM2000.00. 4. Lending something to friends always ended up in no return. Learn how to say 'NO'. True people will say we are 'sombong' but you can't go on losing things forever. However some of our friends are trusted guys. Likewise don't borrow their things. |
9M2DS - Pak Dolah is one of my good friends. I remeber going out with him and Tan ( 9M2SH ) and we had had a good time together. He is very jovial and I always see him laughing and smilling. Pak Dolah is over 74 years old but a jovial person. He is very well verse in Cantonese. With his demise I lose another good friend. Moga-moga Tuhan mencucuri rahmat ke atasnya. |
74+ Hams

PLEASE EXPERT HELP US - On 2 meter band we have been getting technical infos on several matters from the discussions. Beside the technical infos there were also technical discussions. But the technical discussions were too general. So much so many people do not understand the basic and the detail. For instant we are quite interested in how a certain filter works instead of saying that this radio had 2 or 3 filters. I am sure the expert can explain the purpose and need of a cetain filter somewhere and to filter what sort of things; what components and values computed to enable the filter to work. By showing a simple computation we might be able to see the relationship between the moving signal and the task of filtering work. Also when the expert mention filtering QRM, we need to know what QRM were they and how those QRM were rejected. We heard many times about conversion but we also need to know the howness the conversion works, showing the frequencies involve and their behaviour in time. Simple explaination will made us understand things in detail. One more topic we heard was on DSP. This also need explaination on how a given time of analog is change to digital within the same time period, the relationship of the analog waveform and digital binary code. Just to say DSP is convert analog to digital and better than analog, it is a technical info. Please explain more for the benefit of all. |

Newcomers like to ask about the height of the antenna above the ground. The higher your antenna is the lower the take off angle. In short the lower the take off angle the further your signal goes. Old boy Tom has made and experiment and you might want to read about it HERE. |
that for historical reasons, channels 22 to 26 are not in
ascending order of frequencies:-
No exam and no CW. Local and international. Now very organized too. |
I worked DK9MS on 21MHZ on 40 meter band using my dipole antenna with 50 watts. Marcel gave me a 59 report. The date was 26/06/2003 |

Din Sallehan Thank you to Sallehan who went to help 9M2CIA, Lokmal, somewhere in Batu Gajah at midnight when Lokmal had problem with his car. THE USAGE OF QRX BY 9M2s Old Malaysian hams used QRX to tell the other party to standby as it is shown Here or there. Other online encyclopedia give identical definition. We usually tell others to standby, not telling ourselves to standby. To cut confusion let us not use this CW code for phone use. To mention "please standby", "I will standby" is very much better. But to say "I will QRX and QRT" makes me doubly confuse. It does not mean I'will be monitoring, even the generic meaning does not suit the usage. The generic meaning is 'when will I call you again ?' or 'I will acll you again at....'.In ham radio we seldom use the generic meaning though u can use it in morse code. But do you go morse ? I tried not to mention the 9M2s who are using QRX to mean something elses. Many of these people I have never heard them in 1970's or early 80s. The 9M2 should show a good example. Otherwise the supersmart and knows all ham will use it throughout the world. THIS GUY LEARNS CW IN A WEIRD WAY - I know of someone who wants to learn CW using an electronic keyer. He learns high speed sending using Q-Codes like QRZ and QRM, and also a few callsigns. So he keeps on sending those words. As a new learner we don't go a high speed sending. A beginner should learn how to listen first. After recognizing some characters he can slowly learn sending at a slow pace. Fast sending is always dangerous if a person cannot read fast CW. Whenever they call fast CW they will not be able to read the fast speed response. As a result they will repeat the word QRZ all the time or QRM all the time. Finally they drive people away. Why be weired ? Self esteemed problem ? Let us be us, be at whatever level we are and slowly and steadily rise up to the peak. Fast speed sender in not a number one person. A person who is flexible and be able to adjust to any speed required by the other party is a number CWer. Someone might approach you to bring back commodities from outside or offer you to buy things from abroad or using your name on an import permit. Please look before you leap. You are putting yourself into problem and difficulty. Worst if you are asked to buy something with your own money first. You may not get back your money. The trusted money collector would be MARTS, ASTRA, and MARES. |
I would like to remind the others who want to upload their pictures, please name the pictures as your callsigns in jpg format. Only then it will be picked up automatically when you open your callsign info. WEIRED OR NOT ? - One other guy downloaded software that can read and send CW via soundcard and keyboard. So he went round reading any CW signals he can hold on. From time to time he uses a certain callsign to call CQ and work other stations with the software. He felt good and very great about it.This may not sound so weired. All hams should be aware that if anybody goes around and collecting any money for any cause under any pretext, please stay away from him. Don't depart even a single cent. |

4 Letter Word Again ? Those who have read my articles before are not surprise to hear the 4 letter world is used again on ASTRA's repeater. I have done a detail analysis about Malaysian hams before and have forseen what will be happening later on especially at the International Level. But that will only remain as my view because the others are much more smarter and think their own ways. I am not going to repeat any analysis again. I only talked to my wife 2 years ago telling her when troubles happen let it happen. I don't want to say anything anymore. When the international swearing appears and done by the Malaysian I will have to blame the authority because I have warned them already. It is a high time for all hams to think the future base on the present situation. If you want a free and easy upgrading go ahead. If it is going to be worst then might as well abolsh ham radio and open it to all. Radio for all. Words like 'babi','butoh','pungkok' may be nothing to some ethnic group. Let it be it be. What will be, will be. |

MALAYSIAN HOSPITALITY - A computer engineer from Spain was trying to get a reciprocal licence since last months. I gave him the contact person and the MCMC's web page. Today he posted an-email saying that he did not bring any equipment since there was no response from anybody. I wrote to MCMC straight away. The officer in charge was kind enough and acted promptly asking his subordinate to process it. I was waiting for a kind of response from MCMC. So far nothing yet. Hopefully things could be speeded up. Many a time I wrote to various embassies and other organizations. They responded well and prompt too. In Malaysia most government departments would just ignore letters. May be the MCMC finds the normal reciprocal is not so normal as the double reciprocal. I wonder who had been advising MCMC on radio matters like the usage of callsigns for clubs and repeaters etc. And even inventing the new meaning of Q-Code for the MCMC to use. Could the same person advise the MCMC about the reciprocal also ? Today I have received the reply from the MCMC. I would like to thank them. Looks like there are many new officers. I am sure they are trying their best. |

MALAYSIANS ARE
VAGABOND-We no longer The new hams in the country prefer DXing. In the yesteryears DXing means 20 and 15 meters. During the good sunspot activities 10,15 and 20 opens very well. 40 meter was considered as local band. The 40 meter band was good all the time then. We can hear the near and distance stations within the country from morning till night time. The locals meet here, many of them and everyday. 7030, 7035 and 7040 were occupied by hams from all over the country. The most prominant ones were 9M2GL, 9M2FK, 9M2RJ, 9M2AT, 9M2DW, 9M2EG, 9M3GV, 9M2OK, 9M2WT, 9M2SH, 9M2MT, 9M2BS, 9M2CF, 9M2RI, 9M2RS, 9M2AV, 9M2SS, 9M2AP, 9M2DJ, 9M2PT, 9M2CG, 9M2MW, 9M2CW, 9M2FR, 9M2AS, 9M2RB, 9M2PD, 9M2SX, 9M2PF, 9M2SB and a few others whom I can't remember. Many SWLs were enjoying listening to their communications about everything else under the sun. Those legends are disappearing. For several years only 9M2HC and 9M2ZA seems to be heard. A few years ago we can still hear the Malaysian net. Now gone. Frequencies are there but the Malaysians are not there. One or two hams who is coming on the band has to look for a clear frequency here and there. Now we have to move from place to place. |
ARE we selfish ? In many ways we are selfish. We are thinking more of our own interest. We don't want the others to be like us. As for our own interest we fight all the way forgetting the others. In many professions that's what we do. We set arguments, prepare excuses and running from the basic. We reject the idea of letting everyone get access to ham radio giving various reasons which in fact can be overcome. In one article I wrote about swearing on the Quaran. We said if we swear on it we are right. When we say let all the criminals use swearing in court to declare their innocent, we say cannot "..they will be telling lies". Double standard is normally due to selfishness. We say we are not. But people see us otherwise. Arguing with selfish people is just a waste of time and breath. In fact I seldom or even have not heard some of these people on the air. May be they don't go local but using other people's callsign to go DXing. BUT we have to always remember; as long as the rules do not change we must abide by the rules, good or bad, we like it or not. That is what civilization is about. |

My latest experiment was keeping and retreiving fingerprints on this current server. Creating a table in foreign server is not easy. I tried my homebrew MySql manager to create a table. I ca't see the listing of it but when I log into the server, I saw it was all there. From my homebase using the usual laptop, I manage to make my VB program shook hand with the server. I scan and record my fingers and serached them back. It work like magic, a very wonderful experience. Come on all the young men out there. If a 62 year old person can learn CW and manage to make things work, why can't you. What you need is only believeing in yourselves, that you can do it. 9M2PZ the late Pawanteh passed his morse test at 74 years old. |

CB IS INTERNATIONAL TOO
|
CB is international. It does not need any RAE. Like the so-called ham radio, CB has also have a QSL card and worlwide meetings like the the ham. So far it does not cause any problem and able to communicate without any special technical know-how. The size of the international memberships is a prooven that people can communicate without RAE. In Indonesia millions of Radio Rakyat members. There is no point to segregate the CBers and the ham operators. Let all be merge into one and called it 'Radio Operators'. Every citizen can enjoy hamming then. Hence the word 'pirate' can be casted aside. Time changes. We cannot follow the old style. When abolising RAE and opening radio to every citizen, there will be no more problem of CW. Those who want to learn CW just go ahead but it is not mandatory. The MCMC can get more income. Radio manufactureres survive. People don't have to waste time and money preparing for RAE. The basic thing is about the relevancy. Both CW and RAE are no more relevant. CB proofs it. If the CBers can go without any hush for the SOP, why can't anybody else. In fact they have their own SOP. They don't have to sit for any exam to know the operating procedure. The non licencees can now join the normal hams and they will not be called pirates anymore. Even then the MCMC already legalised them. It makes no different whther tey are using a different or the same repeater. The normal ham use 73, they use 73 too. S are the other jargons. It is absurd, very absurd to segregate radio operators with different standard when they are doing the same things. Let everyone rationalise this facts and think clearly about it. Tommorrow go to the MCMC and suggest for NO RAE, LET ALL RADIO OPERATORS BE UNITED INTO JUST A SINGLE ENTITY CALL RADIO OPERATORS. We abolish discrimination and segragation by abolishing RAE. |

HOW GOOD IS MY CW ? - Compared to the Americans, Russians and the Indonesians my CW is 1 scale out of 10000. But I am very proud of it because I am able to copy by just listening. The highest speed that I can read is about 35 wpm, no more. My fastest sending is just about 18 wpm with full of mistakes. What I will be saying here is just my feeling, which is not neccessarily be factual. CW makes me feel I am better than many hams who do not know them. I feel smart. I respect people who know morse because I believe they are very smart. One has to be real smart and diligent enough to be able to pass it. People who fail CW is not because they are not smart but because of their other commitments. They don't have the time to focus on it, especially a medical doctor or a lawyer. To me a doctor is more important than a lawyer. A doctor save life,a lawyer makes money. A doctor should be given communication facilities and a callsign for free. They need to communicate from time to time at the time of distress. I heard people say, so and so in Malaysia is extremely good in morse. But I have not heard them. But I can tell you that among the 9M2s, 9M2FK, 9M2YP, 9M2ZN, 9M2AGC are among the best CWers. I take my hat off and give all my respect to 9M2AGC who can master morse in a short period of time. 9M2MGL is slowly picking up to be among the best. I was laughing hard when people say a musician can learn it fast. To me it is a mere excuse. Those who can't mean they don't work hard enough. You have to have discipline to do it. Those who like to give excuses after excuses will always do teh same anywhere and everywhere. That is what the politicians like to do. But the worst of the politicians is that they like to lie and feel natural about it. Morse Code is another language, the language of a real ham, which we do not want anymore. Real ham radio will be dead whether we like it or not. I feel happy with my little Thai, Hokien and Mandarin. Now a new one, the CW. The other day when I went to Indonesia one ham said "Pak saya punya callsign yang tertinggi sekali..saya ada CW". But my pride stays with me and in me. I do not despise the others who have been trying very hard to make time to do a little study. The effort put is as good as passing the CW exam. I do not only talk about CW. I also work CW. How to convert DBF file to Mysql database file ? 1. There is a program called dbf2Mysqlw32.exe which converts dbf file into sql script file with the extention .sql. The dbf2Mysqlw32.exe can be anywhere. To execute it just type dbf2Mysqlw32 directory\filename.dbf eg dbf2Mysqlw32 c:\ham\callbook.dbf. You will get a file called callbook.sql. This is a script mysql file. 2. To run callbook.sql you must be in Mysql > command. That means you have to enter mysql. My Mysql is in Mysql\bin directory. I invoke Mysql command by typing Mysql. 3. Type Mysql > Source callbook.sql. Remember to create a table first before running the script. Fields must be the same. You can see the fields name by typing edit callbook.sql. Good Luck !

| QRL | Is this frequency busy | Used almost exclusively with Morse code |
A ham thinks using a Q-Code on SSB can make him unique and he may feel special. So he uses them without knowing their meanings. The seniors are following the juniors so that they may not be left behind. Q-Codes are for CW communications, not for SSB. At least that's how it started. True it is easier and more comfortable to use, but if we continue using them wrongly it could spoil the beauty of ham radio. |
| QRM | Man-made interference | There's another QSO up 2 kHz that's causing you a lot of QRM | |
| QRN | Static crashes | The band is noisy today; I'm hearing a lot of QRN | |
| QRP | Low(er your) transmitting power | I'm using a QRP transmitter here, running only 3 watts | |
| QRS | Send your Morse code more slowly | Please QRS, I'm new to Morse code | |
| QRT | Stop sending | I've enjoyed talking to you, but I have to QRT for dinner now | 98%
OF HAM RADIO COMMUNICATIONS did not discuss technical
stuffs pertaining to ham radio. If you talk about using
various type of ant and radio, you are not talking
technical. It would only be technical if you analyse the
wave propagation pattern, formula to compute the gain,
the shape of the wave for each ant, the inside component
of the radio doing what work and how.
How many ham construct their own transformers, transceivers, receivers, repairing the miniature radio PC board or built their own power supplies ? What is so tecnical about ham radio in this country ? It is theSOP that is more important. So why RAE ? |
| QRV | Ready to receive | Will you be QRV in the upcoming contest? | |
| QRX | Hang on a minute, I'll be right back | Please QRX one | |
| QRZ | Who is calling me? | QRZ? I hear someone calling, but you're very weak | |
| QSB | Fading of signal | I'm hearing a lot of QSB on your signal | |
| QSL | Acknowledge receipt | I QSL your last transmission | |
| QSO | A conversation with another ham | Thanks very much for the QSO | |
| QSY | Change frequency | Let's QSY up 5 kiloHertz | |
| QTH | Location | My QTH is South Park, Colorado | |
| QTR | Exact time | QTR is 2000 Z |
